The game of golf thrives in Northeast Ohio.  For the past 28 years, Hudson Ohio has hosted an event that has attracted top - ranked junior golfers in the nation and from around the world.  This summer, the Country Club of Hudson continues this tradition with the 28th annual Hudson Junior Invitational.

In 1978 a group of Hudson families conceived an event that would provide young golfers an opportunity to test their talents, their will an their determination in a venue of competition.  The first tournament was held in the summer of 1979, and since then the event has grown in prestige and tradition, as well as raising over half a million dollars for charity.

Each year the Invitational receives hundreds of applicants from the best golfers worldwide under the age of 18.  The list of HJI alumni includes players such as Mike Weir, Lee Janzen and Jim Furyk.  In 1986, Phil Mickelson won the Hudson Junior Invitational the same week he turned the age of 16.

In 1983, John Daly traveled from Jefferson City Missouri to Hudson, Ohio.  At the age of 17, he won The HJI with a two-stroke margin.  His ultimate dream would come true 8 years later at the PGA Championship.  As the last alternate in the field, he won his first professional major title, and forever became the unlikely hero to small town fans, players and young athletes with dreams.

Ohio has a renowned place in the growth and history of the game of golf.  This state is home to a multitude of premier and historic golf courses, hosting major championships and PGA Tour events.  Ohio has been the birthplace and learning grounds from some of golf's most notable heroes, players that range from improbable champions like Akron resident Herman Keiser who won the 1946 Masters, and Kent State's Ben Curtis who won the 2003 British Open, to the most dominant player in golf's history, Jack Nicklaus.

The Hudson Junior Invitational is proud to be a part of Northeastern Ohio's passion of the game, contributing its own unique tradition and providing an early proving ground for young athletes.  The Hudson Junior Invitational is recognized nationwide as one of the premier junior golf tournaments.
